Q. I get the run time error “339" for MSCOMCTL.OCX:

The full error description is

Run time error 339

Component ‘MSCOMCTL.OCX’ or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

This is a required file and is installed by Dcat Screen Saver installation program. Uninstall and reinstall Dcat Screen Saver.

Q. I get the run time error “339" for DMC2.OCX:

The full error description is

Run time error 339

Component ‘DMC2.OCX’ or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

This is a required file and is installed by Dcat Screen Saver installation program. This file will not correctly register if the Visual Basic 5.0 file “msvbvm50.dll” is not installed on the system. This file is also installed by Dcat Screen Saver installation program. Uninstall and reinstall Dcat Screen Saver.

Q. I get the run time error “339" for MSVBVM60.DLL:

The full error description is

Run time error 339

Component ‘MSVBVM60.DLL’ or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

This is the main Visual Basic runtime file and is required by Dcat Screen Saver. You must install this file yourself. Either go to your favourite freeware web site or go to my site and download the Visual Basic 6.0 runtime module and install this on to your computer.

Q. I get the Error DLL Loading error: MSVBVM60.DLL:

This is the main Visual Basic runtime file and is required Dcat Screen Saver. You must install this file yourself. Either go to your favourite freeware web site or go to my site and download the Visual Basic 6.0 runtime module and install this on to your computer.

Q. About Virus Scanners:

The computer may slow down for a few seconds or up to two minutes and the CPU activity will increase to 100% when a virus scanner scans Dcat Screen Saver at the point that Dcat Screen Saver executes if the virus scanner is configured to scan for viruses in a screen saver file. This can be avoided by configuring the virus scanner not to scan .scr files or not to scan Dcat Screen Saver when Dcat Screen Saver is run.

If the following virus scanners are set to scan all files when the files are accessed/run then you may find the computer will react in the way described.

The system will with McAfee Virus Scanner and Norton Virus Scanner slow down for up to 2 minutes before allowing access to the screen saver.

AVX Professional takes only 5 to 6 seconds before allowing access.

Kaspersky AVP and F-Secure cause no problems with the system.

Q. Why does my virus scanner report Dcat's programs as being infected with a virus.

A. Both Dcat Screen Saver and Dcat Shopping List are encrypted and have other methods applied to them to help protect the programs from being cracked or reversed engineered. This protection may confuse some virus scanners into reporting the program as infected. Norton, McAfee, AVP and AXV virus scanners will recognize this protection and  should report the programs as clean.

Q. With Dcat Screen Saver is  there a way for jpeg images to be displayed in full colour.

A. Dcat Screen Saver can display jpeg images in full colour but your windows colour settings must be set to a minium of High Colour (16 bit). Set the colour settings for windows to be at least at the level of colours that your images use. I.e. if using graphics interchange format (.gif) images then your colour settings can be set to 256 colours. But using bitmap or jpeg then I would recommend a minium setting of High Colour.

Q. I can't get Dcat Screen Saver to play music using Windows 95/98.

A. To start your music. First have the screen saver running then hit the escape key. Switch the Audio on then if you want click Save as Default.
Note:  Only on versions 1.30 to 1.33 .

Q. I can't get Dcat Screen Saver to play music using Windows NT/2000.

A. I stuffed up here. Using Dcat Screen Saver with Windows NT/2000 you can play music but because of a fault with my code you can not start the audio playing without editing the registry. If you wish to edit the registry then the value held in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/VB and VBA Program Settings/Dcat/ScreenSaver/Preferences /Audio On-Off must be zero. Use zero to turn audio on and one to turn the audio off.
Note:  Only versions 1.30 to 1.33 have this audio problem.

Q. Some of my Jpeg images are not being displayed:

A. Jpeg images must have the extension .jpg for the Dcat SS to display them. If the images have the extension .jpeg then the images will not be recognised by Dcat SS.

Q. Why does Dcat SS crash when being installed:

Dcat Screen Saver uses a 3rd party Active X control called DMC2 to provide audio support. This control requires the Visual Basic file, msvbvm50.dll, to be installed on your system before you can install Dcat SS. The file msvbvm50.dll will be installed on your system when installing Dcat SS (only with the 1974kb zip file) otherwise the Visual Basic 5 runtime module must be installed to install this file.
